[Source] Medicinal material source: the bark or root bark and leaves of the Cornus officinalis plant.

[Original form] Deciduous tree, 6-15m high. The bark is dark gray; the branches are purple-red and hairless. Leaves are alternate; petiole 2-6.5cm long; leaf blade broadly ovate or broadly elliptic, 6-13cm long, 3.5-9cm wide, apex acuminate, base rounded, dark green above, gray-green below, sparsely appressed pubescent; lateral veins 6-7 pairs. The corymbose cyme is terminal, slightly covered with appressed short soft hairs; the flowers are small and white; the calyx teeth are triangular; the petals are 4, long lanceolate; the stamens are 4, extending, 4-5mm long, and glabrous; the ovary is inferior, obovate, densely covered with gray appressed short soft hairs. The drupe is spherical, purple-red to blue-black, and 6-7mm in diameter. The flowering period is May-June, and the fruiting period is July-August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in evergreen broad-leaved forests or mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests at an altitude of 250-2600m.

【Cultivation】 Biological characteristics: It prefers a mild, cool and humid climate. Afraid of high temperature, resistant to severe cold. It is best to cultivate it in loam with deep soil layer, rich humus and good drainage.
