Dendrobium, the name of a traditional Chinese medicine. It is the fresh or dried stems of cultivars of Dendrobium nobileLindl., Dendrobium chrysotoxumLindl. or Dendrobium fimbriatumHook. of the Orchidaceae family and similar species of plants of the same genus. It has the effects of nourishing the stomach, producing body fluid, nourishing yin and clearing away heat. It is commonly used for damage to body fluid due to febrile disease, dry mouth and thirst, insufficient stomach yin, loss of appetite and dry retching, persistent fever after illness, yin deficiency and excessive fire, bone steaming and fatigue fever, blurred vision, and weakness of tendons and bones.

7.5 qian of almonds, 7 qian of dried yam and wolfberry each, 7 qian of Achyranthes bidentata, 1 liang of raw Rehmannia root, Tribulus terrestris, Dendrobium candidum, Cistanche deserticola, Ligusticum chuanxiong, roasted licorice, Citrus aurantium (fried with bran), 5 qian each of Amaranthus amaranthus, Saposhnikovia divaricata, and Coptis chinensis, 8 qian of Cassia tora, 0.5 liang of black rhinoceros horn, and 0.5 liang of antelope horn. Dendrobium chrysotoxum: It is in the shape of a coarse spindle, with a diameter of 1 to 3 cm in the middle and 3 to 7 nodes. The surface is smooth, golden yellow, with obvious raised edges. It is light and crispy, with a spongy cross section. It has a slight odor, light taste, and is sticky when chewed.

Dendrobium fringed: Long cylindrical, 20 to 150 cm long, 0.4 to 1.2 cm in diameter, with obvious nodes and internodes 2 to 6 cm long. The surface is yellow to dark yellow with deep longitudinal grooves. The texture is loose, and the cross section is flat or fibrous. The taste is light or slightly bitter, and it feels sticky when chewed.

Dried Dendrobium: flat cylindrical or cylindrical segments. The surface is golden yellow, greenish yellow or brownish yellow, shiny, with deep longitudinal grooves or ridges, and some have visible brown nodes. The cut surface is yellowish white to yellowish brown, with numerous scattered vein spots. It has a slight odor, a light or slightly bitter taste, and is sticky when chewed.
