[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb with roots of Aster tataricus, a plant of the Asteraceae family.

[Original form] Aster lyreleaf is a perennial herb, 50-100cm tall. The rhizome is thick. Stems solitary or tufted, covered with spreading long coarse hairs, often glandular, branched above, with densely growing leaves. The lower leaves are oblong-spatulate, up to 12cm long and 2.5cm wide, gradually narrowing into long petioles at the lower part; the middle leaves are oblong-spatulate, 4-9cm long, 1.5-2.5cm wide, slightly narrow at the lower part, the base expanded into a cordate shape or with round ears, semi-amplexicaul, entire or with serrations; the upper leaves gradually become smaller, ovate-small, ovate-oblong, with a cordate base amplexicaul, often entire; all leaves are covered with long adnate hairs and dense short hairs on both sides, with glands, and with long hairs along the veins and edges at the lower side; the midrib is raised at the lower side. The capitula is solitary or arranged in a sparse umbrella-like manner at the branch end; the peduncle is 0.5-5cm long, with linear-lanceolate or ovate bracts; the involucre is hemispherical; the involucral bracts are 3 layers, oblong-lanceolate, the outer layer is densely hairy and ventral, and the inner layer has a membranous edge and no hairs; there are about 30 ligulate flowers, the ligules are light purple, and the tubular perianth is densely hairy; the style attachment is 0.4mm long; the pappus is white or slightly red, with slightly unequal lengths of slightly rough hairs. Achenes are ovate-oblong, narrow at the base, with two ribs and covered with soft hairs. The flowering period is from February to September, and the fruiting period is from June to October.
