Know the side effects

When the hot summer comes, an animal will suddenly appear in our lives, coming so quietly. This animal is called: cicada, also known as cicada. Cicadas are particularly common in rural areas. They usually climb on trees and chirp all day long, which is very unbearable. What’s strange is that sometimes when people walk by, the cicadas will suddenly stop chirping, as if they know danger is coming.

Scientific research shows that cicadas are high-protein animals with certain edible value and can be used as daily food. However, generally speaking, you should not eat too many cicadas, as eating too much will have certain side effects. So, what are the side effects of cicadas? Let’s introduce them one by one below.

A representative species of Cicadidae insects. The male has a sound organ on its abdomen that can produce continuous sharp sounds. Females do not make sounds, but have hearing organs on their abdomen. The larvae live in the soil, sucking on the roots of plants, while the adults eat the sap of the plants. Cicadas undergo incomplete metamorphosis, transforming from eggs to larvae (nymphs), through several moltings, and into adults without going through a pupal period. It comes from Buddhism like “Zen”, so it is called “cicada”. The larval stage of cicadas is called cicada monkeys. Cicada monkeys are rich in nutritional value and delicious, making them a fashionable delicacy. The cicada body is rich in nutrients, with a dry basis protein content of more than 70%, fat of about 7%, and vitamins and various beneficial trace elements that are higher than those in ordinary meat products. It can be called the king of protein in today's food.

There are two kinds of cicadas commonly produced in Shandong area. One is slightly larger and is called "zhi le" or "chong jie le", and the other is smaller and is called "shu le". The larger ones are edible and their skins can be used as medicine.

In fact, the earliest thing used as medicine was the cicada, that is, the body of the cicada, rather than the cicada molt (cicada skin). In the "Shennong's Herbal Classic" of the Qin and Han Dynasties, grasshoppers were listed as "medium-quality" and said to be able to cure "night crying of children, epilepsy, chills and fever", and were a special medicine for pediatrics. It was not until the Northern and Southern Dynasties in the "Famous Doctors' Records" that cicada shells were used as medicine. Since then, people have used cicada shells more and cicadas less. "Compendium of Materia Medica" says: "Today people only know how to use cicada shells, but don't know how to use cicadas." To this day, people are accustomed to using cicada shells instead of cicadas, which has overshadowed their benefits. It is a pity. Its uses and usage are introduced below: When the mature nymph of the cicada changes into an adult, the outer shell it sheds is called cicada molt, also known as "cicada molt" or "cicada skin". Its main components include chitin and protein. It tastes sweet, salty and cold. It enters the lung and liver meridians. It is an important pungent and cool Chinese medicine for relieving exterior symptoms.

Cicadas are cold in nature and fragrant in taste. They have the functions of dispersing wind, clearing the lungs, relieving fever and calming the nerves, but they can also cause diseases such as stomach cold. The effects are: used for exogenous wind-heat, fever, chills, cough, rubella, skin itching, measles with poor outbreaks, sore throat and hoarseness, and also for symptoms such as red and swollen eyes and cataracts covering the eyes.

Do's and Don'ts: Pregnant women should take with caution. Side effects: The overall pharmacological effect of cicada shell is the strongest, and the toxicity is low.

Through the above introduction to cicadas, everyone can better understand this little animal. However, the side effects of cicadas cannot be ignored in our daily lives, because once ignored, you will end up eating cicadas frequently. Once you eat cicadas frequently, it will inevitably lead to some diseases in your own body, so you must keep it in mind.
