What are Morels

What is morel? Morel is a rare variety of edible mushroom, named because of its uneven surface of cap, which looks like a sheep's tripe. Morels are also known as sheep's tripe, sheep mushroom, and sheep's tripe mushroom. It is used for food stagnation, qi stagnation, abdominal distension, phlegm accumulation, qi stagnation, wheezing and cough. Morels are also known as sheep's tripe and sheep mushroom. Morchella, also known as morel, is a precious edible and medicinal fungus. Morels were discovered in 1818. Its structure is similar to that of a disk fungus, and the upper part is wrinkled and mesh-like, resembling both a honeycomb and a sheep's stomach, hence the name. Morels are particularly productive two to three years after a wildfire, so North American pickers collect morels based on wildfires. However, when fires are controlled, its growth decreases year after year in the same area.

Morels are rare edible and medicinal fungi of the genus Morchella in the family Morchellaceae, and have long been included in Li Shizhen's book "Compendium of Materia Medica". Wild morels have small or medium fruiting bodies, 6-14.5cm, and the cap is irregularly round, oblong, 4-6cm long and 4-6cm wide. There are many pits on the surface, which is like a sheep's belly. It is light yellowish brown, with a white stalk, 5-7cm long, 2-2.5cm wide and thick, with shallow longitudinal grooves and a slightly swollen base. The morel consists of a tripe-shaped fertile cap and a sterile stipe. The surface of the cap has a hymenium with reticular ridges, and the edge is connected to the stipe. The stipe is cylindrical, hollow, and has a smooth or grooved surface.
