Michelia alba DC.: an evergreen tree, up to 17 meters high, with spreading branches and a broad umbrella-shaped crown; diameter at breast height 30 cm; gray bark; branches and leaves are fragrant when rubbed; young branches and buds are densely covered with light yellowish-white fine hairs, which gradually fall off with age. The leaves are thinly leathery, oblong or lanceolate-elliptic, glabrous above and sparsely pubescent beneath, with obvious reticulate veins on both sides when dry. The flowers are white and very fragrant; there are 10 lanceolate tepals; the pistil has many carpels, which extend along the receptacle when mature to form a sparsely follicled aggregate fruit; the follicles are bright red when mature. The flowering period is from April to September, blooming in summer and usually not bearing fruit.
