Distributed in East China, Central China, Southwest China and Taiwan. It has the effects of dispelling wind and heat, promoting dampness and detoxifying. It is mainly used to treat colds, coughs, sore throats, red and swollen eyes, stranguria, leucorrhea, sores, carbuncles, snake bites, and bruises. Fine-leaved Artemisia selengensis, also known as white-backed Artemisia selengensis and Japanese Artemisia selengensis (Flora of Jiangsu). Annual herb, 8-28cm tall when flowering. The stems are slender, numerous, tufted, and densely covered with white wool. The leaves at the base are rosette-shaped, survive during the flowering period, linear-oblanceolate, 2.5-10cm long, 4-7mm wide, with a small tip, gradually narrowed at the base, entire, green above, sparsely woolly or glabrous, densely white pubescent below; the stem leaves gradually become smaller upwards, linear, 2-3cm long, 2-3mm wide, with very small leaf sheaths at the base. There are many capitulums, which are densely packed into a ball at the end of the stem; the involucre is bell-shaped, about 5mm long and 4-5mm wide; the involucre has 3 layers, reddish brown, dry membranous, obtuse at the apex, the outer layer of bracts is broadly elliptic, and the inner layer is oblong; all the flowers are solid, the corolla of the outer female flowers is filamentous, and the corolla of the central bisexual flowers is tubular, pink on the upper part, and 5-toothed. Achenes are oblong, about 1mm long, with fine points; pappus are in one row and white. Flowering period is April-May. effect Dispel wind and heat, promote dampness removal and detoxify. Indications Cold, cough, sore throat, red and swollen eyes, stranguria, leucorrhea, sores, furunculosis, snake bites, and injuries from falls. Related Combinations 1. To treat colds and flu, take 30g of the whole herb of Tianqingdibai. Decoction in water. (Hunan Pharmacopoeia) 2. To treat wind-heat cough, use 30g of Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, 15g of Artemisia annua, and 9g of mint. Decoction in water. (Sichuan Traditional Chinese Medicine Records, 1982) 3. To treat red eyes caused by wind and fire, take 60g each of Tianqing Dibai Xiancao and Yexiazhu. Decoction in water. (Fuzhou Chinese Herbal Medicine Clinical Handbook) 4. To treat sore throat, take 12g of white-backed Artemisia selengensis, 9g each of Leonurus japonicus and honeysuckle. Decoction in water. (Fujian Pharmacopoeia) 5. To treat pyelonephritis, take 30g of the whole herb of Astragalus membranaceus, 15g of Juncus effusus, and 10 red dates. Decoction in water. (Commonly used herbal medicines among Zhejiang folks) Dosage For internal use: decoction, 9-30g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application. Preparation Collection and processing: Harvested after flowering in spring, sun-dried or used fresh. |
