Poria cocos, commonly known as Yunling, Songling, and Fuling, is a fungus that parasitizes on the roots of pine trees. It is shaped like a sweet potato, with a dark-brown skin and white or pink inside. Its protozoa are the dried sclerotia of the Polyporaceae fungus Poria cocos, which mostly parasitizes on the roots of Masson pine or red pine. It is produced in Yunnan, Anhui, Hubei, Henan, Sichuan and other places. The ancients called Poria cocos "the magical medicine of four seasons" because it has a wide range of effects that are not limited to any season. When combined with various medicines, it can exert its unique effects on all diseases, regardless of cold, heat, wind, or dampness. Poria cocos tastes sweet, light and neutral in nature. It has the functions of promoting diuresis and eliminating dampness, benefiting the spleen and stomach, and calming the mind and tranquilizing the nerves when used as medicine. Modern medical research: Poria cocos can enhance the body's immune function, and Poria cocos polysaccharides have obvious anti-tumor and liver protection effects. The effects and functions of Zhu Fushen: 1. Treat restlessness and trance: 100 grams of Fushen (peeled), 25 grams of agarwood. Grind into fine powder, and make pills with honey in the size of red beans. Take 30 pills each time, with ginseng soup after meals.

2. Treat heart deficiency and blood deficiency, restlessness, frequent shock and confusion, and restless sleep: Ginseng (remove the reed head), Poria (remove the wood), Astragalus (roasted with honey), Rehmannia root (washed and roasted), Chinese angelica (washed and roasted), Ziziphus jujuba seeds (peeled and fried), cinnabar (grind separately, half of it as medicine and the other half as clothing). Divide the above ingredients into equal parts, grind into fine powder, and make into pills with refined honey, as big as sycamore seeds. Take 30 pills each time, with ginseng decoction.

3. To treat fatigue, irritability and insomnia: 50g each of Poria (without the wood) and ginseng, 250g of Ziziphus jujuba seeds (fried, peeled and ground separately). Coarsely pound and sieve the above three ingredients. Take 15 grams each time, add one cup of water and half a part of ginger, smash it, boil it until seven parts are left, remove the residue, take it warm on an empty stomach, twice a day and once at night.

Fushen is a traditional Chinese medicine product made from the plant Poria cocos. The original plant is mostly parasitic on Masson pine or logs. Its growth and development can be divided into two stages: the mycelium (white filaments) stage and the sclerotium stage. During the mycelium growth stage, the mycelium mainly absorbs water and nutrients from the wood surface, and at the same time secretes enzymes to decompose and transform the organic matter (cellulose) in the wood, allowing the mycelium to spread and grow vigorously in the wood. The second stage is that the hyphae gather into clusters in the middle and late stages and gradually form sclerotia (also called knots, etc.).
