1. Purslane Soup for Treating Enteritis

【Functions and indications】Treats enteritis and diarrhea.

[Ingredients of the folk remedy] 60 grams of purslane and 15 grams of garlic (mashed into garlic paste).

[Usage and Dosage] First boil purslane into a soup, then drink it with mashed garlic and add appropriate amount of brown sugar. Take all at once, 2 to 3 times a day.

[Case Verification] This prescription was used to treat 21 patients, 20 of whom were cured and 1 was ineffective, with an effective rate of 95.2%.

2. White Peony Root and Atractylodes Macrocephala for Enteritis

【Functions and indications】Nourishes blood and softens the liver, promotes qi circulation and relieves pain. Mainly used to treat chronic enteritis.

[Ingredients of the folk prescription] 25 grams of fried white peony root, 15 grams of fried atractylodes, 6 grams of tangerine peel, and 10 grams of saposhnikovia divaricata.

[Usage and Dosage] Take 1 dose daily; decoct in water and take in 2 doses.

[Case Verification] 35 cases of chronic enteritis were treated, 28 cases were cured (accounting for 80%), 5 cases were improved (accounting for 14.25%), and 2 cases were ineffective (accounting for 5.7%). The total effective rate was 94.3%.

3. Pueraria root and Astragalus root for treating enteritis

【Functions and indications】Regulating qi and relieving pain, strengthening the spleen and stopping diarrhea. Mainly used to treat acute enteritis.

[Ingredients of the folk remedy] 6 grams of Pueraria lobata root, 6 grams of Scutellaria baicalensis, 2.4 grams of Coptis chinensis, 3 grams of Sophora flavescens slices, 3 grams of Phellodendron chinense, 2.4 grams of Magnolia officinalis (added later), 3 grams each of green and tangerine peel, 9 grams of honeysuckle (fried), 9 grams of red Poria cocos, 2.4 grams of roasted ginger charcoal, and 9 grams of Plantago seed (wrapped).

[Usage and Dosage] Take 1 dose daily, decocted in water and taken in 2 doses.

[Case Verification] This prescription was used to treat 19 cases of acute enteritis, of which 12 were cured (accounting for 63.1%), 6 improved (accounting for 31.6%), and 1 was ineffective. The overall effective rate is 94.7%.

4. Plantago and honeysuckle treat enteritis

【Functions and indications】Mainly used to treat acute gastroenteritis.

[Ingredients of the folk remedy] 20 grams of Plantago seed, 15 grams of honeysuckle, 10 grams of Saposhnikovia divaricata and Coptis chinensis, and 8 grams of chicken gizzard lining.

[Usage and Dosage] Decoction the above medicines, take 1 dose per day, divided into 2 to 3 times orally.

[Case Verification] This prescription was used to treat 39 patients with acute gastroenteritis, and all of them were cured after 3 to 6 doses of the medicine.

5. Agrimonia and Platycodon grandiflorum for treating enteritis

【Functions and indications】Nourishes the spleen and restrains yin, clears away dampness and heat. It is mainly used to treat chronic diarrhea, including chronic bacillary dysentery, amoebic dysentery and chronic colitis, frequent diarrhea, sometimes mild, sometimes severe, sometimes intermittent, with abdominal pain, abdominal distension, loose stools with mucus, occasionally a small amount of pus and blood, repeated attacks, and long-term treatment without recovery.

[Ingredients of the folk remedy] 30 grams of herb Agrimoniae, 6 grams of Platycodon grandiflorum, 4 grams of black plum charcoal, 9 grams of white hibiscus flower, 9 grams of stir-fried Atractylodes macrocephala, 5 grams of Magnolia officinalis, 9 grams of raw white peony root, 10.2 grams of stir-fried Areca nut, and 4 grams of licorice.

[Usage and Dosage] Take 1 dose daily, decocted in water twice and taken in 2 doses.

[Additions and Subtractions] When this prescription is used to treat amoebic dysentery, 14 grains of Brucea javanica should be added, shelled and swallowed in two doses; for chronic dysentery and chronic colitis with obvious signs of liver depression and spleen stagnation, remove the betel nut and add 4.5 grams of Bupleurum chinense, 15 grams of Radix Dioscoreae, and 9 grams of Gentiana macrophylla; for severe abdominal pain, the dosage of white peony root and licorice should be increased: 15-30 grams of white peony root, 9-15 grams of licorice; for patients with long-term diarrhea, physical weakness and weak qi, but no obvious abdominal distension, remove costus root and betel nut, and add 4.5 grams of roasted Cimicifuga heracleifolia, 12 grams of Codonopsis pilosula, and 15 grams of roasted Astragalus membranaceus.

[Case Verification] This prescription was used to treat 98 patients, of whom 71 were cured (accounting for 72.4%), 25 improved (accounting for 25.5%), and 2 were ineffective (accounting for 2%). The overall effective rate was 98%.

6. Wumei Baijiang treats enteritis

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and dampness, regulates qi and promotes blood circulation, strengthens the spleen and suppresses the liver. Mainly used to treat chronic nonspecific colitis. Long-term diarrhea, sticky stool or stool with pus and blood, abdominal pain and distension, or tenesmus, abdominal distension, poor appetite and fatigue, yellowish-white complexion, dark and stagnant tongue, greasy tongue coating, and a stringy, slow and slippery pulse.

[Composition of the folk remedy] 12-15 grams of black plum, 12 grams of Patrinia scabra, 4.5-6 grams of Coptis chinensis, 9 grams of costus root (added later), 10 grams of Angelica sinensis, 12-15 grams of stir-fried white peony root, 10 grams of stir-fried Citrus aurantium, 12 grams of Pseudostellaria pseudoginseng, 10 grams of stir-fried Atractylodes macrocephala, 15 grams of Poria cocos, 12 grams of Pueraria root, and 6 grams of roasted Licorice root.

[Usage and Dosage] Take 1 dose daily, decocted in water and taken in 2 doses.

[Additions and subtractions] For patients with severe heaviness in the lower abdomen, add 3 grams of Magnolia officinalis and 6 grams of Areca catechu to relieve stagnation and promote qi circulation; for patients with obvious heat symptoms, add 6 grams of Coptis chinensis to clear away heat, dry dampness and reduce inflammation; for patients with prolonged illness, add 3 grams of Cinnamon bark to thicken the intestines and eliminate dampness; for patients with lower abdominal distension, add 15 grams of stir-fried Radish Seed to relieve gas and distension.
