Although it is a "weed", it can cure many diseases

When I was a child, I liked listening to my grandfather playing the bamboo flute. Many of his popular songs were refreshing and joyful. There is a song in particular called "Phoenix Tail Bamboo in the Moonlight". The melodious tune and the pleasant melody, especially under the moonlight, always make people's thoughts fly. The lush phoenix tail bamboo forest, the unique pavilions scattered among the bamboo forest, and the mountains and rivers are really a wonderful feeling.

However, although we have listened to such beautiful music, we have never seen the Phoenix Tail Bamboo. But what’s interesting is that later, when I was out collecting herbs with my grandfather, I discovered a kind of wild grass whose name also includes the word “Phoenix Tail”, so it was called Phoenix Tail Grass. Pteris is a fern in the genus Pteris of the family Pterisaceae. It likes to grow in shady, moist and warm places. Of course, Pteris has strong vitality and is very drought-resistant. It can also grow in cracks in rocks.

Phoenix tail grass is also known as chicken foot grass, golden chicken tail, well mouth grass, well side phoenix tail, well fence grass, phoenix tail fern, and five-finger grass. It is not only for viewing, but also a good medicine for treating diseases. For example, in "Illustrated Catalogue of Plant Names and Realities", it is believed that phoenix tail grass can "cure five types of stranguria and stop urinary pain"; for another example, in "Records of Medicinal Herbs in Lingnan", it is believed that phoenix tail grass can "cure pain caused by qi and heat". However, "Classification of Herbal Medicinal Properties" believes that phoenix tail grass "treats all heat toxins, reduces swelling, and clears heat. It can treat carbuncles, breast abscesses, and gonorrhea."

Modern Chinese medicine believes that phoenix tail grass tastes slightly bitter and is cool in nature; it enters the large intestine and liver meridians; it has the effects of clearing heat, promoting dampness, detoxifying, and stopping bleeding; it is suitable for damp-heat diarrhea, jaundice, leucorrhea, mastitis, metrorrhagia, etc.; the general dosage is 9 to 30g. External use of Phoenix tail grass can treat traumatic bleeding, burns, scalds and other symptoms; apply an appropriate amount of fresh product, mash it and apply it to the affected area.

Pteris crucifera has many uses in clinical practice, but it also needs to be used in combination with other Chinese medicines to achieve its effect. For example, when treating dysentery, diarrhea and other symptoms, phoenix tail grass can be used together with Polygonum multiflorum, Portulaca oleracea and other medicines; for example, when treating painful urination and damp-heat diarrhea, phoenix tail grass can be used together with Polygonum multiflorum, Dianthus superbus, Lygodium japonicus and other medicines; for example, when treating sore throat, phoenix tail grass can be used together with Isatis indigotica, Isatis indigotica and other medicines; if used to treat hematuria, bloody stool, hemorrhoid bleeding and other symptoms, phoenix tail grass can be used together with Platycladus orientalis leaves, Cirsium japonicum, Cirsium cyrtonema, Lotus node charcoal, and Pollen charcoal.

The herb phoenix tail grass is very effective in stopping bleeding. For example, when treating women's metrorrhagia, you can use 30 grams of phoenix tail grass, chop it into pieces, and boil it with half water and half wine. To treat blood in stool, you can use 20 grams of phoenix tail grass, stew it with pig large intestine, remove the residue, eat the intestine and drink the soup. When treating nosebleeds, you can use 20 grams of phoenix tail grass and 30 grams of kelp, decocted in water and taken.

Pteris viridis is also a good medicine for treating burns caused by water or fire. You can wash and mash fresh pteris viridis, then use salt water to make a green liquid for later use. Clean the wound first, then apply the prepared pteris viridis liquid evenly on the wound. Apply it evenly every 1 to 2 hours or after the wound is dry. Of course, you can also dry the phoenix tail grass, grind it into fine powder, and apply it with sesame oil.
