There is a kind of needle-like wild grass growing in many areas in northern my country. When I was a child, I heard from the elders that the roots of this plant can stop bleeding and treat edema. I thought it was very magical. After I went to college and learned about Chinese medicine, I learned that the root of this very common plant is called Imperata root. Imperata root is recorded in Shennong's Herbal Classic, the earliest Chinese herbal book. It tastes sweet and is cool in nature. It has the effects of cooling blood and stopping bleeding, clearing away heat and promoting diuresis, and promoting fluid production and quenching thirst. There are also records of the treatment of hot stranguria in "Zuohou Fang", "Qianjin Fang" and "Sanyin Fang". The "Ten Ashes Powder" in the "Ten Medicines Divine Book" and the three methods for treating heart failure created by Zhao Xiwu, a famous Chinese medicine practitioner in my country, both use Imperata root as the main medicine and utilize its hemostatic effect. Modern research has proved that the active ingredients in this product can inhibit bacteria and at the same time, it can also enhance the body's immunity. There are also many folk recipes using Imperata root. Nosebleed: Stir-fry Gardenia 15g, Imperata cylindrica 30g, decocted in water and taken orally. Bleeding from knife wounds: fry Imperata root until it is charred, grind it into fine powder and sprinkle it on the affected area to stop the bleeding immediately. Alcohol poisoning: 15g of Pueraria root and 30g of Imperata root, decocted in water and drink as tea. In addition, many modern doctors refer to "Medical Records of Combining Chinese and Western Medicine" and use the effect of Imperata root in regulating qi to treat insomnia caused by liver qi stagnation. The clinical manifestations of this type of insomnia include: difficulty falling asleep or awakening early, bloating and pain in the chest, flanks or lower abdomen, chest tightness, sighing, irritability, and women may have irregular menstruation. There are detailed records of making Imperata Root Soup in "Medical Records of Combining Chinese and Western Medicine". We can also refer to the methods in the book and make our own tea substitute. First, peel and wash the fresh Imperata root, cut it into small pieces of about half an inch with a knife, or take an appropriate amount of Imperata root slices. Add cold water to the casserole, put the medicine into the pot and boil it over high heat. Then turn down the heat but keep the soup in the pot simmering. Turn off the heat when the Imperata roots sink to the bottom of the water. When the soup cools down slightly, filter out the residue. The decocted soup can be drunk as tea. Frequent consumption can soothe the liver and regulate qi, and treat insomnia. |
