What are some herbs that lower cholesterol?

In daily life, we often hear many elderly friends complain that their blood lipids have increased again. In fact, this is all because they eat too much high-calorie, high-protein food in their diet, which causes the cholesterol in the body to continue to increase. If this phenomenon is not controlled, it will cause high blood pressure and diabetes. So what are the herbs that can lower cholesterol? In response to this question raised by everyone, I would like to invite my friends to discuss it with me in the following time.

1. Eat less or no foods with extremely high cholesterol content, such as animal offal and egg yolks, and control the cholesterol intake in your diet (less than 300 mg per day). The cholesterol in the blood is mainly (70%) synthesized by the liver, and only a small part (30%) comes from food. Therefore, simply reducing cholesterol intake cannot fundamentally treat high cholesterol, but controlling the cholesterol intake in food is still helpful in lowering cholesterol. According to the standards recommended by the American Heart Association, the daily cholesterol intake should be less than 300 mg or lower, while the cholesterol in one egg yolk is 250-290 mg; the cholesterol content of 2 taels of cooked pork liver is as high as 469 mg.

2. Eat less fatty meat and animal oil to reduce the intake of saturated fat. Saturated fat is widely found in meat, eggs, and dairy products, especially in fatty meat, animal oils, and offal. Saturated fat has the effect of increasing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in the blood, and its effectiveness is even greater than that of cholesterol itself.

3. Eat more vegetables, fruits, fungi and algae foods, such as konjac, fungus, kelp, wakame, onion, pumpkin, sweet potato, etc. These foods are rich in dietary fiber and help the excretion of cholesterol. The main way for the human body to excrete cholesterol is through bile. The liver uses cholesterol to synthesize bile acid, which is then discharged into the gastrointestinal tract with bile to participate in the digestion of fat. Afterwards, some of the bile acid metabolites are reabsorbed back into the blood for "waste utilization", while the other part of the bile acid metabolites are excreted from the body with feces. The function of dietary fiber is to absorb more bile acid metabolites so that they can be excreted instead of being recycled. In this way, the liver "has to" use more cholesterol to synthesize bile acid to make up for the loss of bile acid. A large number of studies have confirmed that increasing dietary fiber intake has a clear effect in lowering cholesterol.

4. The monounsaturated fatty acids contained in olive oil, tea oil, corn oil and rapeseed oil have the effect of lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). It can be consumed in daily diet together with vegetable oils such as soybean oil and peanut oil.

The above paragraphs introduce us to the cholesterol-lowering herbs in detail. I believe that as long as friends have carefully studied the above content, they will have a deeper understanding and more proficient mastery of these herbs. Of course, I would like to say one more thing. When it comes to the issue of lowering cholesterol, everyone must pay enough attention and must not treat it with a perfunctory attitude.
