With the development of society, many girls in modern society have a common problem, that is, dysmenorrhea. The pain that some girls endure during menstruation is unimaginable, but this is something that women can do nothing about. This requires us to take good care of ourselves and maintain our bodies in normal times. So today, let’s learn about Chuanxiong, a traditional Chinese medicine that mainly treats irregular menstruation. So, what are the contraindications of Chuanxiong? Ligusticum chuanxiong, a cultivated plant, is mainly produced in Sichuan (Guanxian County), and grows in a mild climate in Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi and other places. Chuanxiong is pungent, warm, fragrant and dry, and it moves but does not stay. It can both disperse and go up to the top of the head; it can also enter the blood and go down to the sea of blood. It has a wide range of effects in promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, and is suitable for various diseases caused by blood stasis; it can dispel wind and relieve pain, and is very effective in treating headaches, rheumatism and arthralgia, etc. Ancient people called Chuanxiong a blood-qi medicine, probably implying that it has the functions of dispersing, relieving depression, promoting circulation, and relieving pain. Effects on the central nervous system Chuanxiong has a significant sedative effect. A small amount of Chuanxiong volatile oil has an inhibitory effect on the activity of the animal brain, but has an excitatory effect on the medulla oblongata respiratory center, vasomotor center and spinal reflex center. The ig administration of Chuanxiong decoction to mice and rats could inhibit their spontaneous activities, prolong the sleep time of mice induced by sodium pentobarbital, and counteract the excitatory effect of caffeine (20 mg/kg). However, it cannot counteract the convulsions induced by pentylenetetrazol in rats. Oral administration of 25-50g/kg of Chuanxiong decoction can inhibit the spontaneous activity of rats, and the sedation effect on mice is more obvious than that on rats; it can also prolong the sleeping time of pentobarbital, but cannot antagonize the excitement of caffeine, nor prevent the convulsion or lethal effects of pentamethyltetrazolium and cocaine. The volatile oil of Japanese Chuanxiong has an inhibitory effect on the activity of the animal brain, and an excitatory effect on the vasomotor center, respiratory center and spinal reflex of the medulla oblongata. When the dosage is increased, all of them turn into inhibition.
