[Source] The dried whole insect of the Bombyx mori, an insect of the Bombyx mori family, that has been infected with Beauveria bassiana and died. Collect dead silkworms, pour them into lime and mix well, absorb moisture, and dry them in the sun or bake them.

[Properties] Cylindrical, mostly curved and wrinkled. About 2 to 5 cm long and 4 to 7 mm in diameter. The surface is grayish white or light brown, often covered with white powdery frost. The head, feet and each segment are clearly discernible. There are often filaments entangled outside the body. The head is yellowish brown and round. There are 8 pairs of protruding legs. It is hard and brittle and easily broken; the cross section is flat, with varying shades of brown and black, mostly shiny; the outer layer is white and powdery, with four brown bright circles inside. It has a slightly rancid smell and tastes slightly salty. The best ones are straight, plump, firm, white in color and with a smooth cross-section.

[Chemical composition] The white powder on the surface of Bombyx batryticatus contains ammonium oxalate.

[Preparation] White silkworm: pick out the silk hair, wash off the dust and dry it in the sun. Stir-fried silkworm pupae: Sprinkle bran in a hot pan, wait until smoke rises, pour in the silkworm pupae, stir-fry until yellow, take out and sieve out the bran. Let cool. (For every 100 catties of silkworms, use 10 catties of bran)

【Functions and indications】Dispel wind and relieve spasms, resolve phlegm and disperse stagnation. Treat aphonia caused by stroke, epilepsy, headache and throat wind. Laryngeal congestion, scrofula and tuberculosis. Rash, erysipelas, mastitis.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 1.5 to 3 qian; or made into pills or powder. For external use: grind into powder and sprinkle or apply on affected area.

【Note】 ① "Materia Medica": "It is incompatible with silkworm cocoons, platycodon, tuckahoe, poria, and radix polygoni multiflori."

[Additional prescription] ① Treat facial paralysis and hemiplegia caused by stroke: take equal parts of white aconite root, white silkworm and whole scorpion (all used raw). Grind into fine powder.
