What are the medicinal values of Quisqualis chinensis?

Quisqualis, also known as Four Gentlemen, is a plant that grows in southern my country and is native to Latin America. This plant grows quite tall, up to eight meters in height. In the summer it will grow fragrant flowers in an umbrella-shaped shape. So, what medicinal value does this plant have? Let’s take a look at it together below.

1. Pinworm expelling effect

The experimental results on mice naturally infected with pinworms showed that Quisqualis juncea powder and the combination of Quisqualis juncea and Stemona japonica powder all had a certain effect in repelling pinworms. For the larvae, Quisqualis juncea powder was ineffective, but the combination of Quisqualis juncea powder and Stemona japonica powder had a slight effect.

2. Anti-dermatofungal effect: The water extract of Quisqualis fraseri has different degrees of inhibitory effect on dermatofungi such as Trichophyton violaceum, Trichophyton concentricum, Trichophyton schrenckii, Microsporum audouinii, Microsporum ferrugineum, Microsporum woolly, Epidermophyton inguinale, and Nocardia asteroidea in vitro.

Three: Other functions

Quisqualis juncea powder has a certain effect in relieving pinworms caused by natural infection of rats. When used in combination with Stemona tuberosa powder, its efficacy is better than when used alone, and it also has a slight effect on larvae. Aqueous extract (1:3) has some inhibitory effect on certain skin fungi in test tubes.

Four: Precautions

① "Compendium of Materia Medica": Avoid drinking hot tea, as it will cause diarrhea.

② "Bencao Jingshu": Avoid eating hot food.

③ "Bencao Huiyan": People with weak spleen and stomach should not use it too much, as eating too much will cause hiccups. If there is no accumulation of parasites, taking it will definitely cause harm to people.

Well, after reading the above introduction, I believe you already know that the medicinal value of Quisqualis chinensis is still very high, but it cannot be consumed with tea. This is also recorded in many ancient Chinese books. If you take Quisqualis chinensis after drinking tea, you will have severe diarrhea. Similarly, do not eat too spicy or too hot food while taking Quisqualis chinensis.
