Amenorrhea is the absence of menstruation or the cessation of menstrual cycles after they have been established. Those who are over 16 years old but have developed secondary sexual characteristics but have not yet had menstruation, or those who are over 14 years old but have not developed secondary sexual characteristics, are said to have primary amenorrhea. Those who have had menstruation but have stopped for 6 months or 3 cycles are said to have secondary amenorrhea. There are two causes of amenorrhea: functional and organic. Functional amenorrhea is caused by dysfunction of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis; organic factors include genital dysplasia, tumors, trauma, chronic wasting diseases (such as tuberculosis), etc. According to the different anatomical sites, it can be divided into uterine amenorrhea, ovarian amenorrhea, pituitary amenorrhea and hypothalamic amenorrhea. When making a diagnosis, we must first understand the detailed medical history and conduct a physical examination to exclude amenorrhea caused by pregnancy, breastfeeding, contraceptives and organic diseases. Endocrine examinations include: basal body temperature, vaginal cell smear, cervical mucus crystallization, and endometrial pathology examination. Blood hormone level measurements include: prolactin, luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone. Therapeutic tests include progesterone withdrawal test and artificial cycle test. If necessary, adrenal and thyroid function measurements and genetic tests are also required. Treatment principles: Amenorrhea caused by organic factors should be treated specifically for the patient. For functional amenorrhea, appropriate endocrine treatment (ovulation induction, estrogen and progesterone replacement therapy) and integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment should be given according to the condition. You need to get rid of your mental burden, strengthen your exercise, be full of confidence, and actively cooperate with treatment
