What are the effects of the traditional Chinese medicine Poria

Poria is used for patients with kidney deficiency. It can eliminate edema, reduce the burden on the kidneys, relieve dampness and heat, and has a diuretic effect on those with difficulty urinating and low urine volume. The immune factors contained in Poria can enhance the body's immunity and have an inhibitory effect on tumor cells. Since the Poria polysaccharide contained in Poria can promote the increase of adrenal hormones, it can improve endocrine and effectively resist radiation. In addition, its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects can fight diarrhea and malaria. This medicine can be combined with other Chinese medicines to maximize its efficacy.

1. Diuretic use: Poria decoction, equivalent to 0.25-0.5g/kg of crude drug, intravenous or intramuscular injection, has a relatively obvious diuretic effect on non-anesthetized dogs, and can promote the excretion of electrolytes such as sodium, chloride, and potassium, which may be due to the inhibition of renal tubular reabsorption function.

2. Impact on immune function:

2.1. Immunoenhancing effect: Poria polysaccharide can significantly enhance the proliferation response of mouse T cells to ConA and the proliferation response of B cells to LPS. Polyporus polysaccharide has a significant mitogenic effect on mouse whole spleen cells. At a dose of 12.5 mg/(kg·day), Poria polysaccharide can significantly increase the number of mice secreting specific antibodies to SRBC; it can significantly enhance the delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction of mice to heterotypic spleen cells and promote heterotypic spleen cells to activate cytotoxic T cells (CTL) to kill target cells. CTL is an important effector cell in the body's immune surveillance and plays a key role in tumor immunity.

2.2. A non-T cell mitogen action. Normal mouse spleen cells and thymocytes, nude mouse spleen cells and spleen cells after the adsorbent cells were removed were cultured to observe the proliferation response to different concentrations of Polyporus polysaccharide. The results showed that the response of nude mouse spleen cells to Polyporus polysaccharide was no different from that of normal mouse cells, that is, T cells did not play a role in this reaction; after removing the adsorbent cells from nude mouse spleen cells, the vast majority of the remaining cells were B cells, but they could still produce a significant proliferation response to Polyporus polysaccharide, indicating that Polyporus polysaccharide has a mitogenic effect on B cells. The response of nude mouse spleen cells to Polyporus polysaccharide was significantly weakened after the adsorbent cells were removed, indicating that the adsorbent cells played a certain auxiliary role in the response of nude mouse spleen cells to Polyporus polysaccharide. It reveals that Poria polysaccharide may be a non-T cell mitogen. However, it does not have hemagglutination effect, unlike plant-derived mitogens such as PHA and ConA.

Since Poria has a diuretic effect, taking too much will lead to dehydration and dry mouth, so the dosage must be controlled. Using an injection will cause inflammatory reactions in the local skin and even the risk of anaphylactic shock, so be careful when using it. At the same time, you should eat a light diet during the period of taking the medicine, avoid greasy and spicy food, pay attention to rest, and prevent overwork.
