Effects of Kochia scoparia

Effects of Kochia scoparia

Some time ago, I always felt stomach discomfort and often burped. I couldn't eat much but gained a lot of weight. I was very bloated and dizzy, and I had small red rashes on my body. A friend introduced me to a Chinese medicine doctor. After seeing the doctor, I found that there was an ingredient in the prescription, Kochia scoparia. A friend said that Kochia scoparia is poisonous, so I should be careful when decocting the medicine and boil it for a while longer. Then I checked the effects and side effects of Kochia scoparia on the Internet.

Kochia seeds are the dried fruits of Kochia scoparia, an annual herb of the Chenopodiaceae family. The main ingredients are saponins and vitamin A substances. It has the effects of clearing dampness and heat (diuretic, anti-skin fungus). It can be taken internally to treat urinary problems and stranguria caused by cystitis. It can be used externally to treat skin eczema, rheumatoid arthritis and other symptoms.

In clinical medicine, it is mainly used as an auxiliary diuretic to enhance the effects of other diuretics, that is, the so-called "conductor" of diuresis, to treat heat stranguria or edema, and is often used in combination with superbus, umbellatus, and tongcao. Secondly, it is more commonly used to treat damp-heat or wind-heat on the skin, such as various eczema and prurigo. Can be taken orally or used externally. For internal use, it can be combined with raw rehmannia, wild chrysanthemum and white moss peel, and the recipe is the same as the Decoction for Dehumidifying and Eliminating Rash. For external use, boil and wash the affected area with Cnidium monnieri and other herbs.

Dehumidification and diuresis: "Bencao Qiuyuan" said "Kochia scoparia seeds can clear away evil heat in the bladder, replenish the bladder's yin blood, and when the heat is gone, urination will be facilitated, and the yang energy in the middle burner will benefit naturally. Therefore, it can treat urinary incontinence due to yin fire, frequent urination or stranguria, hernia, exogenous heat and erysipelas. Grind it into powder and take with wine to treat leucorrhea, and make it into pills with Bletilla striata to treat leucorrhea." Kochia scoparia seeds are sweet, bitter and cold. They enter the kidney and bladder meridians, so they are good at clearing damp heat in the lower burner, and can be used to treat urinary difficulty, damp heat in the lower burner, stranguria, genital itching and other symptoms.

Clearing heat and detoxifying: "Compendium of Materia Medica" said: "The taste of Kochia scoparia is slightly sweet at first and then becomes pure bitter, and it has a cold nature, so it should be classified as a heat-clearing agent." This product is cold and can clear heat, so it can be used to treat red and swollen eyes, bloody diarrhea, itchy and swollen sores, rubella and other symptoms.

Nourishes the essence and strengthens the yin: This product is used to treat kidney yin deficiency and symptoms of virtual fire disturbing the kidney. It has the effect of nourishing essence and strengthening yin. Clinical symptoms: weakness of waist, knees and feet, dizziness, tinnitus, spermatorrhea, red tongue with little fluid, deep and fine pulse, accompanied by hot flashes, dry mouth, sore throat and rapid pulse. Kochia scoparia seeds are sweet and cold in nature, enter the kidney meridian, clear away dampness and heat, deficient fire, and prevent dampness and heat from disturbing the yin essence. "Compendium of Materia Medica" says: "The book says that it can strengthen the essence and yin, but it does not really have the ability to nourish the body. It just means that it can remove heat and strengthen the body."

Kochia scoparia is non-toxic and mostly cultivated; the poisonous plant is Aconitum. Maybe my friend heard it wrongly. The names and effects of Chinese medicines are different, but they cannot be used casually. They must be used according to the doctor's instructions. As the old saying goes, all medicines are three-quarters poison. Do not take medicine on your own and cause unnecessary trouble. Chinese medicine must be purchased from a regular hospital, and attention should be paid when boiling it. The boiling time of the medicine is also different. If it is not convenient to boil it at home, you can send it to a pharmacy for professional boiling.
