[Source] It is the root bark of Glehnia littoralis, a plant of the Ulmaceae family. Harvested in summer and autumn.

[Original form] Shrub, 1 to 2 meters high. The branchlets are slender and covered with short, small, coarse hairs. Leaves are alternate; thin papery; ovate-lanceolate, 5-8 cm long, 1.5-3 cm wide, with a caudate-long pointed tip, a rounded base, serrated edges, 3 basal veins, glabrous or slightly rough above, usually glabrous below, with rare sparse hairs; petiole 6-10 mm long, hairy. Flowers unisexual; cymes axillary, with 2-3 flowers, equal to or slightly shorter than petioles; florets less than 1 cm long, pedicels with short hairs; no petals; 5 sepals, erect; ovary sessile, 1-chambered, 2 stigmas, slightly flattened, about 3 mm long, red; core wrinkled. Flowering period is March. The fruiting period is from October to November.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on roadsides or ditches in mountains. Distributed in Guizhou, Guangxi, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Taiwan and other places.

【Functions and indications】 Strengthens the spleen and promotes diuresis, resolves blood stasis and promotes new blood.

[Additional prescription] ① To treat watery diarrhea: take one or two liang of hard shell Lang, boiled in water and drink.
