[Original form] Deciduous shrub, 1.5 to 4 meters high. The bark is yellowish brown and peels off in thin flakes; the young branches are hairless and reddish brown. The leaves are opposite, elliptic-ovate to lanceolate-ovate, 5-11 cm long, 1.5-3.5 cm wide, with acuminate or long acuminate apex, broadly cuneate or nearly rounded base, serrated margins, sparsely covered with white flat hairs or glabrous on the upper side, white hairs on the veins below, and clusters of hairs in the vein axils. The veins are 5 from the base, and the base of the main vein and the petiole are often red or purple. The raceme grows at the top of the lateral stick, 5 to 12 cm long, with 5 to 11 flowers; the flower diameter is 2.5 to 3 cm; the calyx tube is cup-shaped, with 4 lobes at the top, the lobes are triangular-ovate, and the apex is pointed; the surface of the calyx tube and pedicel are densely covered with white short stiff hairs; there are 4 petals, which are broadly elliptical or broadly ovate, pure white; there are many stamens, and the outer stamens are longer than the inner ones; there are 4 styles, which are open near the upper half, and the ovary is inferior with 4 chambers. Capsule obovate, 4-lobed; seeds numerous. Flowering period is from May to June. The fruiting period is from August to September.

[Habitat distribution] It grows on the sunny sides of stream valleys or in thickets on the edge of forests on hillsides. Distributed in Zhejiang, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou and other places.
