[Source] It is the roots, leaves, fruits and bark of Schisandra chinensis of the Caprifoliaceae family. The fruits are harvested in autumn; the roots, leaves and tree fruits can be harvested all year round and sun-dried. After removing the fibrous roots, wash, slice and dry them.

[Original form] Shrub, 1 to 2.5 meters high. The stem is erect, brown-red, with numerous branchlets, covered with coarse hairs, gradually becoming glabrous with age, and with nearly circular lenticels. The leaves are simple, opposite and closely arranged; obovate, 12-21 mm long, 9-15 mm wide, obtuse or slightly pointed at the apex, cuneate at the base, with shallow wavy blunt teeth on the margin, veins protruding underneath and covered with hairs; petiole 3-6 mm long. The inflorescence is arranged in a panicle; the flowers are white, and the pedicels are less than 3 mm long; the corolla is tubular, with 5 lobes at the apex, and the lobes are obtuse; there are 5 stamens. The drupe is red. The heat shield is dark, oval, and about 5.4 mm long. There is one seed, which is oblong, has five edges, and the flesh is often attached to the surface. Flowering period is summer.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in thickets on hillsides, forest edges, and roadsides in the mountains. Distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou and other places.
