[Source] Medicinal material source: The fruit of the plant Chasteberry of the Rosaceae family.

[Original form] Chaste tree, tree, up to 10-14m tall. The small ones are hairless and dark brown. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 2-5cm long, with short soft hairs and a few glands when young, which soon fall off and become glabrous; leaves are elliptical or ovate, 3-8cm long, 2-3.5cm wide, with fine serrations on the edges, slightly short soft hairs or completely glabrous when tender. Umbel with 4-6 flowers, without peduncle, clustered at the top of branchlets, slender pedicels, 1.5-4cm long, glabrous; flowers white, 3-20 in diameter; styles 5 or 4, pubescent at base, longer than stamens. The pear fruit is nearly spherical, 8-10mm in diameter, dark brown or yellow, with the stalk and calyx pits slightly sunken, and the sepals falling off; the fruit pedicel is 3-4cm long. The flowering period is from April to June, and the fruiting period is from September to October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in mixed woods on hillsides at an altitude of 50-1500m and in bushes in the shade of valleys.

[Properties] Identification of properties: This product is a regular oblate spherical shape with a diameter of about 1 cm, a calyx pit at the top, which is slightly recessed, and occasional fruit grooves at the base. The stalk should be 2-3 cm long. The surface is reddish brown, and it is divided into 5 chambers when partially opened. Occasionally there are flat triangular seeds. The endocarp is slightly leathery and heavy in texture. Tastes sour and slightly astringent.

【Functions and indications】 Stop diarrhea. Mainly used for dysentery, vomiting and diarrhea

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 15-30g; or grind into powder; or brew in wine.
