[Original form] Daphne odora is an evergreen shrub, 0.5-1m tall. The branches are dark purple or purple-brown, hairless, and the bark is very tough and not easy to break. Leaves are alternate, often clustered at the ends of branches; leaf blades are thick and papery; elliptic-oblanceolate to oblanceolate, 5-10cm long, 1.5-3.5cm wide, and entire. [Properties] Identification of properties: The taproot is cylindrical or conical, branched, and 10-20mm in diameter; the surface is grayish yellow to brownish yellow, with fine longitudinal lines and long horizontal protruding yellow lenticels; the texture is tough, not easy to break, the cross section is uneven, and appears white. The wood and cortex are often separated, and the cortex is highly fibrous and cotton-like. The stem bark is long and ribbon-like, with varying lengths and widths, often tied into small bundles, and about 1mm thick; the surface is brown-black to brown-red, shiny after friction, with longitudinal wrinkles, petiole remnants and long horizontal lenticels; the inner surface is yellow-white, with fine longitudinal lines, and is fibrous. [Identification] Physical and chemical identification Take 2g of crude powder of this product, add 25ml of ethanol, reflux for 30 minutes, filter, and the filtrate is used for the following tests: ① Take 1ml of the filtrate, add 1 drop of 1% ferric chloride test solution, the solution will appear blue.
