[Source] The whole plant of Adiantum palmatum, a plant of the Adiantum family . Dig up in summer and dry in the shade.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 30 to 70 cm tall. The rhizome is short, procumbent, and covered with brown membranous scales. Leaves are clustered; petioles are black-purple, smooth, hairless, shiny, and forked at the apex; leaf blades are bifurcated and palmate; pinnae are solitary on the upper side of the main branch, pinnate-shaped, with the middle one being the largest; pinnules are obliquely rectangular, cuneate at the base, with shallowly rounded upper edges, and no main veins. The sori are transversely oblong, slightly curved, and attached to the underside of the membranous sori formed by the recurved leaf margin; the sori are kidney-shaped or rectangular.

[Habitat distribution] Grown under mountain forests. Distributed in Northeast, North China and Southwest my country.

[Chemical composition] The leaves contain triterpenes such as fernene, isofernene, 7-fernene, anserene, anserene aldehyde, adiantum ketone, isodiantum ketone, adiantum palmatum alcohol, gramene II, neogramene, neogramadiene and fernadiene.

[Nature and flavor] Sweet, slightly astringent and bitter, neutral in nature.

【Functions and indications】Diuretic, dehumidifying, relieving stranguria, regulating menstruation and relieving pain. Treats urinary problems, gonorrhea, hematuria, dysentery, rheumatic swelling and pain, irregular menstruation, metrorrhagia, leucorrhea, and toothache.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 3 to 5 qian.

[Additional prescription] For the treatment of gonorrhea: seven pieces of iron wire, two coins each of gold brush handle, one coin of Akebia, and five fen of ginseng leaves. Decoction in water. (The following properties and flavors are from Shaanxi Chinese Herbal Medicine)

[Clinical application] Treatment of cervical lymph node tuberculosis: use 1 liang of dried whole herb of Wujiaoqiang, or 2 liang of fresh herb, add 2.5 liang of pork (ten liang system), cook together until soft, remove the residue, eat the juice and meat together, one dose per day. Generally, the effect will be seen after 2 to 3 weeks of use, and in a few cases, the effect can be seen after 5 to 6 days. 15 cases were treated, 7 of whom had not been treated with other methods, 6 of whom were cured after taking Wujiaoqiang, and 1 of whom had significantly reduced cervical lymph node tuberculosis; 8 cases had been treated with anti-tuberculosis drugs such as streptomycin and other Chinese and Western medicines, 6 of whom were cured after taking Wujiaoqiang, and 2 of whom had significantly reduced cervical lymph node tuberculosis.
