It is a perennial woody plant of the Violaceae family. The pedicel is slightly longer than the leaves, with linear bracts near or below the middle; the flowers are light purple. The fruit is oval.

Ground cucumbers grow in grass by the river or in wetland parks under forests. It is distributed throughout East China and Northwest China.

Nutritional elements and eating methods: Every 100 grams of edible part of cucumber contains 5.29 mg of carotene, 20.32 mg of vitamin B2, 281 mg of vitamin C, and 5.17 mg of vitamin P. The way to eat it is to pick young shoots or tips in spring and early summer, blanch them in hot water and stir-fry or make soup, or add wheat flour and steam them.

Cucumbers used for medicinal purposes and vaccines are cool in nature, slightly bitter in taste, and non-toxic. It has the effects of clearing away heat and fire, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. It can be used to treat red and swollen throat, sores, bleeding knife wounds, bruises, and unknown swellings. Its usage method is external application; crush and apply or burn and grind into powder. For oral administration, it is a decoction.

1. To treat chronic sore throat and swelling: mash the cucumber and add honey and red bean syrup to it and swallow it. 2. To treat unknown swelling and pus: mash the ground cucumber (fresh wolfberry) and wrap it on the sore. 3. To treat hernia: Take appropriate amount of cucumber and decoct it in water.

4. To treat bruises: 30 grams of fresh cucumber, mash it into fluff, add a small amount of wine, mix it, and wrap it around the injured area.

5. Treatment for impetigo: 3 grams of ground cucumber (burned to preserve its nature) and 1.5 grams of alum. Grind it into powder, mix it, and apply it on the wound.
