The posterior margin of the preoperculum is serrated, the lower margin of the posterior horn has three large spines, and the posterior margin of the operculum has one spine. The gill openings are large, the distance between the gill membranes and the gill septa on both sides is very close, the scales are small and comb-shaped; there are 70 to 78 lateral line scales, and the scales at the base of the dorsal and anal fins are small. The dorsal fin is clearly divided into two parts: the first dorsal fin XII is a pedunculate spine, with the fifth and sixth spines being the longest; the second dorsal fin XIII is a branched fin ray; the origin of the dorsal fin is behind the operculum spine.
