[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Rubiaceae.

[Original form] Broad-flowered ear grass, a vine-like shrub. The stems are usually smooth and hairless. Leaves are opposite; petioles are 2-5mm long; stipules are connate at the base, with 3-5 bristles on the top; leaf blades are papery, elliptic-lanceolate or lanceolate, 3.5-7cm long, 1.2-2.5cm wide, acuminate at the apex, rounded or broadly cuneate at the base, glabrous on both sides or with sparse hairs on the lower part of the midrib above and the veins below, with 2-4 pairs of lateral veins. The inflorescence is in the shape of a corymb, terminal; the peduncle is 2-3.5cm long; the bracts and bracteoles are lanceolate; the pedicel is 1-3mm long; the calyx tube is hemispherical or gyroid, about 1mm long, with 4 lobes at the apex, the lobes are lanceolate, the same length as the calyx tube, and turn outward when flowering; the corolla is white, tubular, the corolla tube is about 1mm long, with 4 lobes at the apex, and the lobes are incurved at the apex; the stamens are born in the corolla tube, and the anthers are extended; the style is 1.5mm long, slightly extended, and the stigma is 2-lobed. The capsule is spherical and slightly flattened, 1-1.2mm in diameter, sparsely hairy, with a very raised apex, and with persistent calyx lobes, which are 2-lobed. Seeds numerous, ridged, seed coat dark brown when dry. Flowering period: summer and autumn.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown on the edge of forest or under sparse forest and in thickets with sufficient sunlight and dry soil.

【Nature and flavor】 Pungent; bitter; warm

【Functions and indications】Dispel wind and dampness; strengthen muscles and bones. It is used for arthralgia caused by wind, cold and dampness; soreness of waist and legs; weakness of tendons and bones; pain caused by falls and injuries

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 6-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
