The People's Bank of China: Overall operation of the payment system in the third quarter of 2022

Payment business statistics in the third quarter of 2022 show that my country's payment system is operating smoothly, with the number of bank accounts, non-cash payment business volume, and payment system business volume generally maintaining growth.

As of the end of the third quarter of 2022, a total of 214.093 billion bank accounts were opened nationwide, a month-on-month increase of 0.85%. The number of unit bank accounts continued to grow.

As of the end of the third quarter, a total of 90.6643 million corporate bank accounts were opened nationwide, a month-on-month increase of 2.59%. Among them, there were 63.9601 million basic deposit accounts, 21.8440 million general deposit accounts, 4.6649 million special deposit accounts, and 195,400 temporary deposit accounts, accounting for 70.55%, 24.09%, 5.15% and 0.22% of the total corporate bank accounts, respectively. The number of personal bank accounts increased slightly. As of the end of the third quarter, a total of 14.002 billion personal bank accounts were opened nationwide, a month-on-month increase of 0.84%.

In addition, in the third quarter, banks across the country handled a total of 312.7637 billion non-cash payment transactions with a total amount of 12.761 trillion yuan, up 6.61% and 15.05% year-on-year respectively.
