eMarketer: Travel booking sales in India account for 83% of B2C e-commerce

India's e-commerce market is growing rapidly, but 80% of the country's online retail comes from the travel booking industry, and Indian online shoppers spend five times more on leisure and unmanaged business travel than on retail goods.
B2C e-commerce sales (including travel) will reach $13.8 billion in 2012, with online travel booking sales reaching $11.5 billion, accounting for 83% of the total.

eMarketer expects online travel bookings to maintain their market share as the sector’s growth will outpace other e-commerce sales during the forecast period. Retail e-commerce (excluding travel) is expected to grow 26.3% to $2.3 billion in 2012, while online travel bookings are expected to grow 42.8%.
