[Source] Medicinal material source: the root or stem of the Clerodendrum sphenanthera of the Vitaceae family.

[Original form] This is a woody climbing vine that can grow up to 15m long. The whole plant is hairless. The roots are fleshy, nearly white, branched, and have dark brown fibrous roots. The stem is cylindrical, with densely covered thick nipple-like protrusions on the surface. The young branches are purple-red with white dot-like lenticels. The tendrils are opposite to the leaves, forked-branched or unbranched. Palmate compound leaves are alternate; petiole is up to 17cm long; leaflets are 5, arranged in bird-toe shape, the central leaflet is larger, narrowly obovate or narrowly elliptic, 11-18cm long, 4.6-8.5cm wide, the leaflets on both sides are slightly smaller, acuminate or long acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, slightly asymmetrical on both sides, with sparse serrations on the margin. Flowers are unisexual, dioecious, with axillary corymbose cymes, 9-11 cm long; flowers are small, greenish-white; calyx is cup-shaped, truncated or 4-lobed at the apex; petals are spreading; stamens are opposite petals; disk is fused to the base of ovary; ovary has 2 chambers, stigma has 4 lobes. The berries are spherical and purple-red. Flowering period is summer.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in deep mountain ravines and moist places at the edge of forests.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy; warm

【Functions and indications】Relieve rheumatism; disperse blood; set bones. Mainly used for rheumatic pain, contusions and swelling, and fractures

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.

【Note】 Pregnant women should not take this medicine.
