Traditional Chinese medicine is very effective in treating some special diseases, but we still need to learn about it before consuming it. Today we will talk about some common knowledge about the medicinal herb Lycoris radiata.

[Other names] Black garlic, old crow garlic, garlic grass, dragon claw flower, cockroach flower, wild garlic, one arrow [Jiangxi], snake avoidance [Hubei]

[Source] It is the bulb of Lycoris radiata (L. Herit.) Herb., a plant of the Amaryllis family. Dig out the bulbs in autumn, select the large ones, wash and dry them for use as medicine, and use the small ones as seeds. Wild products can be collected in all seasons and used fresh or washed and dried for later use.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy, sweet, warm. poisonous.

【Functions and indications】Reduce swelling and kill insects. For external use, it can be used to treat lymph node tuberculosis, furuncle, rheumatic joint pain, snake bites, edema, and to kill maggots and rats.

[Usage and Dosage] For external use, mash an appropriate amount and apply to the affected area.

[Note] Lycoris has a strong emetic effect, so when people use Lycoris to treat food poisoning, 3 to 5 cents of it should be used to induce vomiting. Apart from this, it is generally not taken internally.

[Remarks] (1) Lycorine will cause redness, swelling and itching when it comes into contact with the skin. It will cause nose bleeding when it enters the respiratory tract. Please be careful when handling. If the poisoning occurs by oral administration, the symptoms are: salivation, vomiting, diarrhea, tongue stiffness, convulsions, cold hands and feet, weak pulse, shock, and even death from paralysis of the respiratory center. First aid method: In the early stage, gastric lavage can be performed with strong tea or 1-2% tannic acid, or potassium permanganate; catharsis, drinking dilute acetic acid, sugar water, and light saline, or intravenous drip of glucose saline. Symptomatic treatment: Use spasmolytics for spasm; in case of shock, smell ammonia, keep warm, acupuncture the "Ren Zhong" and "He Gu" acupoints, and inject sodium benzoate, caffeine, or nikethamide.
