[Source] Medicinal material source: the root and whole herb of the Asteraceae plant Ligularia officinalis.

[Original form] Ligularia officinalis is a perennial herb, about 50-100cm tall. There is a root head, on which many thick fibrous roots grow. The stem is erect, up to 1 cm in diameter, glabrous or covered with spider-like hairs. The basal leaves have long petioles, up to 70 cm long, with the base of the petiole slightly enlarged and clasping the stem; the leaf blades are large, up to 30 cm long and wide, often split, with the lobes further palmately fissured, the lobes pinnate or with notched serrations on the edges, with deciduous hairs on both sides, dark green on the surface and lighter in color on the back; the leaves in the middle of the stem have short petioles; the upper leaves are small, often deeply divided, with enlarged short petioles that clasp the stem. Inflorescence umbellate, with long peduncle, without bracts, and densely covered with short curly hairs; 2-8 capitulums, up to 10cm in diameter; involucre broadly campanulate, 20-24mm long, densely covered with short hairs; 1 layer of about 10 bracts, broadly oblong, with pointed apex; 1 layer of about 10 ligulate flowers, 4-5cm long, 8mm wide, yellow; many tubular flowers, about 2cm long. Achenes are cylindrical, 9mm long, with longitudinal stripes; pappus is reddish brown, about 1cm long. Flowering and fruiting period is June to October.

【Habitat distribution】Ecological environment: Grown on hillside grassland.

[Chemical composition] The root of this product contains senecionine, platyphylline, neopetalsitenine, furanoeremophilane-6β,10β-diol, 10β-hydroxy-6β-methoxy-furanoere-mophilane, and 10β-hydroxyfuranoeremophilan-6β-y1-2′ξ-methylbutanoate.
