[Source] Medicinal material source: The tuberous root of Aconitum kusnezoffii of the Ranunculaceae family.

[Original form] Aconitum carmichaelii is a perennial herb in southern Yunnan. The tuber is carrot-shaped, 6-7cm long and 7-13mm in diameter, sometimes nearly columnar and up to 12cm long. Stems twining, branched, recurved pubescent. Leaves are alternate; petiole 5.5-7.5cm long, covered with recurved short soft hairs; leaf blade pentagonal, 8-10cm long, 9-14cm wide, 3-lobed, split to 6-8mm from the base, central deep lobe rhombic, 3-lobed in the middle, lateral deep lobes oblique fan-shaped, unequally 2-lobed, sparsely covered with short soft hairs on the upper side, sparsely covered with short soft hairs only on the veins on the lower side. Inflorescence 4-12cm long, with 2-6 flowers, inflorescence axis and pedicel covered with recurved short soft hairs; pedicel 2.5-3.5cm long; bracteoles grow near the middle of pedicel, narrowly linear or subulate, 3-7mm long; flowers are bisexual and bilaterally symmetrical; upper sepals are high helmet-shaped, 2.3-2.6cm high, 1.8-2.1cm long from base to beak, concave, outer edge nearly vertical, beak 2-6mm long, lateral sepals oblique, about 1.6cm long; blue-purple, sparsely covered with short soft hairs on the outside; 2 petals, petal about 1.1cm long, about 4mm wide, lip about 6mm long, slightly concave, spur about 3mm long, recurved backwards, glabrous; stamens numerous, filaments entire, glabrous; carpels 5, glabrous. Fruit follicles, 2-2.2cm long. The seeds are numerous, triangular, about 3.5 mm long, and densely covered with membranous wings on only one side. The flowering period is October, and the fruiting period is October-November.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in bushes on hillsides at an altitude of 1700-2500m.

[Properties] 1. Identification of properties: The root is cylindrical, slightly curved, with a few branches at the end of the root, 3-8cm long and 0.5-1cm in diameter. The surface is brown with many longitudinal wrinkles and root apex angles. It is hard and easy to break, with a yellow-brown cross section and pentagonal ring marks.

[Chemical composition] The tuberous root contains austroconitine A, vilmorrianine A, vilmorrianine B (also known as aconitine), vilmorrianine C, vilmorrianine D, isotaladin, talatisamine, 8-deacetylyunaconitine, talatizidine, condelphine, yunaconitine, austroconitine B and crassicauline A.

[Identification] Physical and chemical identification Thin layer chromatography: Take about 1g of the powder, add 10% ammonia solution 1ml, ether 10ml, soak in cold for 24h, and filter. The filtrate was evaporated to dryness and washed into a 1 ml volumetric flask with dichloromethane to make up to volume as the sample solution. Separately, dianacontin and taraconitine were prepared into dichloromethane solutions containing 2 mg of each in 2 ml as control solutions. Spot 3 μl of sample and reference solution on a high-efficiency silica gel GF254 thin layer plate, develop with cyclohexane-ethyl acetate-diethylamine (8:1:1), take out, dry, and spray with an equal volume mixture of potassium bismuth iodide and potassium iodide iodine test solution for color development. The chromatogram of the test sample will show spots of the same color at the corresponding position of the chromatogram of the reference sample.

【Functions and indications】Relieve rheumatism; dredge meridians and relieve pain. Treats wind-cold-dampness arthralgia; paralysis caused by stroke; injuries caused by falls

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct 1-1.5g; or grind into powder. For external use: take appropriate amount, grind into juice and apply; or grind into powder and apply on skin.
