[Original form] Wild papaya is an evergreen woody vine, up to 9m long. The stem is cylindrical, gray-brown and hairless. Palmate compound leaves are alternate; petiole is 5-10cm long; leaflets are 5-7, leathery; petiole is 1.5-3cm long; leaflets are oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 8-132cm long, 2.5-4cm wide, with long acuminate tip, rounded or cuneate base, bright green above, yellow-green or light brown below, midrib raised below, 9-11 lateral veins on each side, and reticulate veins are obviously raised below. Flowers are unisexual, dioecious, homologous, with different odors, often 3 flowers arranged in a corymbose raceme; peduncle is slender, with large bud scales at the base, pedicel is slender, 2-3cm long; male flowers have 6 sepals, light yellow or milky white, outer 3, lanceolate, 1.8cm long, 5mm wide, acuminate at the apex, inner 3 linear-lanceolate, 1.6cm long, 2mm, green with purple, petals absent, 6 male flowers, angular protrusions of 2mm in the connectives, about the same length of the anther locules, all filaments form cylindrical tubes, and the reduced carpels are small; sepals of female flowers are similar to those of male flowers, but larger, up to 2.2cm long, 3 carpels, rod-shaped, with many ovules, 6 reduced stamens, tiny, ovate-lanceolate, acute at the apex, 2-3cm long, with 6 nectaries. The berries are oblong, green when unripe, orange-yellow when ripe, and about 7cm long. The diameter is about 3cm. There are many black seeds, arranged in several rows and hidden in the flesh. The total period is from March to April, and the fruiting period is from July to October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in moist and ventilated mixed woods, on mountain roadsides and on both sides of stream valleys.
