[Original form] Twining woody vine, 1-3m high. The twigs are twisted, quadrangular, often pubescent when young, sparsely or densely covered with yellow long hairs. Leaves are opposite, simple; petioles are 0.5-3mm long, flat, grooved, sparsely to densely pubescent. The leaves are papery or nearly leathery, ovate, narrowly ovate or lanceolate, rarely nearly rounded, 1-5cm long, 0.3-1.8cm wide, with acute to acuminate apex, rounded, truncated or broadly cuneate base, glabrous on both sides or covered with short to long yellow soft hairs, sometimes with inconspicuous small yellow glandular dots on the underside, which fall off later and become concave dots. The cyme has 2-5 flowers, terminally borne on the short lateral branches of the current year, rarely single flowers in the axillary; bracts linear, 4-10mm long; flowers extremely fragrant; calyx smooth or yellow with long soft hairs, 5-7 lobes, conical linear, 3-10mm long; corolla often red or purple, nearly funnel-shaped, corolla tube 0.9-1.5cm long, inner surface below the throat with long soft hairs, 4-8 lobes, oval, with obtuse tips. The fruit is spherical or elliptical, 0.5-1.2cm long, 5-9mm in diameter, and black. The flowering period is from November to June of the following year, and the fruiting period is from June to November.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows in hillside thickets or forests.

[Properties] Property identification: The stem is cylindrical, 30-60cm long, about 2cm in diameter, the young branches are quadrangular and hairless; the texture is relatively hard. The leaves are opposite, curled and wrinkled, and become oblong-ovate or oblong-elliptical when flattened, 1-3 cm long, gradually pointed at the apex, glabrous, with the midrib raised and pubescent underneath; the petiole is pubescent. The flowers are wrinkled into a ball, dark purple, with a strong fragrance and a light taste.
