The cyme has 2-5 flowers, terminally borne on the short lateral branches of the current year, rarely single flowers in the axillary; bracts linear, 4-10mm long; flowers extremely fragrant; calyx smooth or yellow with long soft hairs, 5-7 lobes, conical linear, 3-10mm long; corolla often red or purple, nearly funnel-shaped, corolla tube 0.9-1.5cm long, inner surface below the throat with long soft hairs, 4-8 lobes, oval, with obtuse tips. The fruit is spherical or elliptical, 0.5-1.2cm long, 5-9mm in diameter, and black. The flowering period is from November to June of the following year, and the fruiting period is from June to November.
