[Source] Medicinal material source: the stems and leaves of the Acanthaceae plant Schizonepeta tenuifolia.

[Original form] Shrimp grass is a perennial herb, 20-50cm tall. The stem is cylindrical, with many branches at the base and covered with short, coarse hairs. Leaves are opposite; petiolate; leaf blade is ovate, 2.5-4cm long or longer, about 2cm wide, with short acuminate tip, gradually narrowing at the base to form a thin petiole, entire, and covered with short hairs on both sides. The spike inflorescence is dense, 6-9cm long, drooping; the bracts are bright, brick red, densely ovate, hairy, about 2cm long; the bracteoles are ovate-lanceolate, slightly longer than the calyx; the calyx is 5-lobed, about 5mm long, hairy; the corolla is white, about 3cm long, extending beyond the bracts, the corolla tube is narrowly bell-shaped, the throat is short, the crown brim is two-lipped, the upper lip is erect, entire or slightly lobed, the lower lip is 3-lobed, with 3 rows of purple spots; there are 2 stamens, 2 anther cells, unequal heights, with a very short spur at the base; each locule of the ovary has 2 ovules, and the style is glabrous. Capsule club-shaped. The seeds are flattened on both sides and have no hairs.

[Habitat distribution] Native to Mexico, it is cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions all over the world. It is very common in gardens and flower beds in southern my country.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy; slightly spicy; cool in nature

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; disperses blood stasis and reduces swelling. Mainly used for furuncle, carbuncle, swelling and pain caused by falls

[Usage and Dosage] Take orally as decoction, 9-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash fresh product for application.
