[Other names] Hehezi, Xianzanzi (Rihuazi Bencao), Yajingzi (Yilin Zongyao).

[Source] They are the seeds of Akebia trifoliata, Akebia trifoliata and Akebia thunbergii of the Akebia family.

[Original morphology] The plant morphology is detailed in the "August Zha" and "Akebia" entries.

[Chemical composition] The seeds of Akebia contain about 18% fatty oil, mainly oleic acid glyceride, linolenic acid glyceride and palmitic acid glyceride.

【Nature and flavor】 ①《Bencao Gangmu》: "warm."

【Functions and indications】 ①《Rihuazi Bencao》: "It can cure all kinds of wind, replenish five kinds of fatigue and seven kinds of injuries. It can cure tinea, gas lumps, febrile diseases, eliminate food stagnation, relieve depression, promote urination, induce labor, detoxify drugs, treat aphonia, hair loss, and can be applied to all snake, insect, and silkworm bites."

[Usage and Dosage] For oral administration: boil into paste or make into pills. For external use: grind and apply before mixing.

【Note】 "Compendium of Materia Medica" states: "Do not take this medicine if the patient suffers from spleen deficiency and diarrhea."

[Additional prescription] ① Treat severe wind with worms in the abdominal organs, which can cause skin ulcers, voice change, and falling eyebrows: 2 liang of Yuzhizi (pounded into powder), 2 liang of realgar (ground into fine powder), and 3 liang of frankincense (ground into fine powder). To prepare the above medicine, first use one dou of water with frankincense powder, boil it in a silver pot over low heat until five liters remain. Add the seeds of the Chinese angelica and realgar, simmer it over low heat until it becomes a paste, and serve in a porcelain container. Take one teaspoon of this mixture with warm wine on an empty stomach every day, and worms as big as horsetails will come out in the stool. (Frankincense decoction from Sheng Hui Fang)
