[Original form] Alpinia oxyphylla, perennial tufted herb, 1.2-2m tall. The petiole is 5-10mm long; the ligule is entire, about 5mm long, pubescent or glabrous; the leaf blade is lanceolate, 20-30cm long, 7-10cm wide, with an acute tip and an obtuse base, glabrous except for the edges and midrib on the back of the leaf which are covered with short soft hairs. The panicle is 20-30cm long, usually with only 1-2 branches, and the second-level branches are numerous and short, about 1.5cm long, with 4-5 small bracts on them; the bracts are funnel-shaped, 3-4mm long; the flowers are arranged in scorpion tail-like cymes, and the pedicels are 3-5mm long; the calyx is cup-shaped, 3-4mm long, light green, and 3-lobed; the corolla is white or light blue-green, hairy on the outside, the corolla tube is as long as the calyx, and the lobes are 5-7mm long; the lip is obovate, 5mm long, concave, light yellow or pink with red stripes, and has a purple scab at the base that covers the throat of the corolla tube; the lateral reduced stamens are square, 1.5mm long, red, the filaments are slender, 5mm long, light yellow to light red, and the anthers are 2mm long; the ovary is glabrous, pear-shaped, and bright green. The fruit is spherical when fresh, oblong when dry, 0.8-1cm wide, red in color, with 3-5 seeds inside, and is fragrant. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from September to December.
