[Source] It is the whole herb of Chickweed of the Caryophyllaceae family . The whole herb is harvested in spring and autumn and used fresh or sun-dried.

[Original form] Biennial herb, 10 to 28 cm high. The stem is slender and soft, prostrate at the lower part, with adventitious roots on the nodes, and obliquely upward and forked branches at the upper part. Except for a row of fine hairs on one side, the rest are smooth and hairless, and light green. The leaves are opposite, narrowly ovate to broadly ovate, with the leaves at the bottom of the stem having wing-like petioles and the leaves at the top being sessile. The flowers are white, solitary in leaf axils, or in terminal, sparse cymes. The fruit is ovate or oblong. Flowering period is April. The fruiting period is from May to June.

[Habitat distribution] It grows on sunny hillside roadsides, foothills, edge of fields and in garden grass. Distributed in Zhejiang and other places.

【Functions and indications】 Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. Treat toothache, carbuncle, and mastitis.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5 to 1 liang. For external use: mash and apply to affected area.

[Additional prescription] For treating mastitis: one liang of chicken stomach grass and one liang of dandelion. Decoction in water.
