[Original morphology] Scutellaria baicalensis, an annual erect herb, 24-40cm tall. The stem is almost glabrous or very sparsely pubescent, often purple at the base. The leaves are petiolate, 0.5-2cm long; the leaf blades are membranous, ovate or triangular-ovate, 1.4-4.7cm long and 1.2-3.5cm wide, glabrous on the upper side or with rough hairs at the base, and with very sparse soft hairs only along the veins on the lower side. Flowers are opposite, arranged in terminal racemes; bracts are small and narrowly lanceolate except for the lowest pair of larger leaf-like ones; calyx is sparsely pubescent only on the veins, which greatly increases when fruiting; corolla is blue-purple, 1.7-1.8cm long, with the base of the front of the tube slightly geniculate, the middle lobe of the lower lip is broadly ovate, with 4 stamens, didynamous; disk is thick and raised in the front. When small, it is oval, with a navel in the middle and lower part of the ventral surface. The flowering period is from June to August, and the fruiting period is from July to October.
