[Source] Medicinal material source: branches and leaves of the Pinus gmelinii plant of the Pinaceae family.

[Original form] A tree, up to 40m tall and 1.5m in circumference. The trunk is straight, and the bark is gray-brown, rough, and cracked in irregular scaly patterns. Annual branches are light reddish brown or light reddish yellow and shiny, while old and short branches are gray or dark gray. The leaves are linear, soft, flat, 2-5.5 cm long, 1.5-4 mm wide, with a sharp or pointed tip, green above with a slightly obvious midrib, bluish-green below with a distinct midrib, and 5-14 stomatal lines on each side. The leaves on long branches radiate and extend, while the leaves on short branches are clustered. The male cones are yellow, cylindrical and drooping; the female cones are purple-red, upright, oval, about 1.3 cm long, and have short stalks. The cones are ovate or obovate, 6-7.5cm long, 4-5cm in diameter, and light reddish brown when ripe; the middle seed scales are ovate-lanceolate, 2.8-3.5cm long, ear-shaped on both sides, blunt with a notch at the tip, and densely covered with short soft hairs on the ridges; the bract scales are about 1/4-1/3 the length of the seed scales, ovate-lanceolate, with fine teeth on the edges. The seeds are oval, white, with triangular-lanceolate seed wings, light yellow or light brownish yellow, and shiny. The flowering period is April to May, and the fruit ripening period is October to early November.
