[Original form] Evergreen tree, 7 to 15 meters high. Bark gray-brown; twigs glabrous. Simple leaves are alternate; ovate-lanceolate to nearly elliptical, 12-20 cm long, 5-8 cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, cuneate at the base, entire, with grayish-white scales on the underside, and glabrous; petiole 1.5-2 cm long. The female inflorescence is often terminal and 15 to 20 cm long. The infructescence is 22-25 cm long, with dense fruits; 3-5 cupules are united, with short stalks or almost sessile, shallow disc-shaped, surrounding the base of the nut, 7-13 mm in diameter, 2-4 mm high; bracts are triangular, attached to the cupules, and arranged in a ring. The nut is chestnut in color, oval in shape, 1 to 1.5 cm in diameter, 1.2 to 1.6 cm long, with a rounded base and only the center and cupule fused; the navel is deeply sunken.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in warm mountains and grows best in valleys with moist and fertile soil. Distributed throughout the south of the Yangtze River.
