The leaves are alternate and sessile in the upper part, opposite and short-stalked in the lower part; the leaves are oblong or ovate, 2-6cm long and 1-2.5cm wide, with irregular shallow serrations on the edges and short soft hairs on the veins on both sides. The flowers are bisexual, solitary and axillary, usually pink, 4-6mm long; the calyx has 4 lobes, 3-4mm long, and covered with short hairs; the petals are 4, obovate, concave at the apex, 4-6mm long; the stamens are 8, 4 long and 4 short; the ovary is inferior, covered with curved soft hairs, the stigma is capitate, 1-1.2mm long and wide, with a style about 3mm long at the base. The capsule is slender and cylindrical, 5-7cm long, scattered with long soft hairs; the seeds are numerous, yellowish brown, nearly oblong, 5-7cm long, scattered with long soft hairs; the seeds are numerous, yellowish brown, nearly oblong, about 1mm long, with small papillae, and a tuft of dirty white hairs at the tip. Flowering period is from July to September.
