[Original morphology] Perennial herb, the whole plant is glabrous, 20 to 30 cm tall. There are 4 to 8 basal leaves, which are clustered; the leaves are thick, kidney-shaped or slightly rounded, entire, deeply cordate at the base, and have long petioles; there are 3 to 6 stem leaves, which are slightly rounded, sessile, and clasping the stem. The flower is solitary at the top of the stem, large in shape; there are 5 sepals, more or less connected at the base, green, and ovate; there are 5 petals, white, ovate, sharply narrowed at the base, with finely fissured edges, about 1 cm long; there are 5 stamens, alternate with the petals, with degenerate stamens between the stamens, born at the base of each petal, with 3 deep lobes at the tip, and each lobe tip has a rod-shaped gland; the ovary is spherical, with 4 carpels and a 4-lobed stigma. The capsule is oblong and has 4 lobes at the top. Seeds numerous and small. With wings. Flowering period is from August to September. The fruiting period is from October to November.

[Habitat distribution] Grown on ridges, ditches or moist places. Distributed in Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Guizhou and other places.

[Functions and indications] Antitussive, hemostatic, diuretic, treating consumptive cough, hemoptysis, hematemesis, dysentery, leucorrhea, and furunculosis.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 2-4 qian (1-2 liang for fresh ones). For external use: mash and apply.
