[Source] Medicinal material source: the roots and stems of Celastrus orbiculatus of the Celastraceae family.

[Original form] Narrow-leaved Celastrus is a vine-like shrub with branchlets densely covered with short brown hairs in the current year. Petiole 5-9mm long; leaves oblanceolate, 6.5-12.5cm long, 1.5-4cm wide, apex narrowly acute or shortly acuminate, base narrowly cuneate to cuneate, margin sparsely shallowly serrated, lateral veins 7-10 pairs. Cymes are axillary or lateral, with 1-3 flowers, male plants occasionally have more than 3 flowers, peduncles range from inconspicuous to 2mm long, pedicels are 1-2.5mm long, all covered with short brown hairs, with joints at the top; male flower sepals are elliptic-ovate, 2mm long and 1mm wide; petals are oblong-oblanceolate, about 4mm long and 1.5mm wide, with very short eyelashes on the edges; disk is fleshy and relatively flat, undivided; stamens are nearly as long as petals, filaments are covered with papillate hairs, anthers are broadly ovate, often with small convex tips on the apex; reduced stamens are less than 2mm long; female flowers are not seen. The capsule is spherical, with a diameter of 7.5-8.5mm. The seeds are crescent-shaped, about 5 mm long. The flowering period is from March to April, and the fruiting period is from June to October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in hillside wetlands or streamside bushes at an altitude of 500-1000m.

【Nature and flavor】 Pungent; bitter; slightly warm

【Functions and indications】 Expel wind and dampness; promote blood circulation and qi movement; detoxify and reduce swelling. It is used for rheumatic pain, traumatic injury, hernia pain, sores, swelling and infection, herpes zoster and eczema.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g. For external use: Apply appropriate amount by grinding the root bark into powder; or grind the root into juice with water and apply.
