[Properties] This product is in the shape of a flat round plate, slightly raised or sunken in the middle, with a diameter of 2 to 4 cm and a thickness of about 0.5 cm. The surface is gray-brown to dark brown, with a reticular pattern and a light yellow hilum on a larger tooth-like protrusion on the edge. The exotesta is hard and brittle, the endotesta is gray-green and velvety. There are 2 cotyledons, which are yellowish white and rich in oil. It has a special greasy smell and tastes bitter.

【Identification】 (1) The powder of this product is yellow-grey in color. The thick-walled cells are oval or quasi-circular, with wavy edges, a diameter of 51 to 117 μm, thick walls, lignified, and with a distinct cell cavity, some of which are narrow. The thin-walled cells of the cotyledons are polygonal, containing fatty oil blocks and starch particles; the fatty oil blocks are round, with a diameter of 27 to 73 μm, and a reticular texture can be seen on the surface.

[Preparation] Momordica charantia: remove the shell and take out the kernel, then crush it.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, slightly sweet, cool; poisonous.
