[Original morphology] 1. Thick-lipped fish, with an elongated cylindrical body, slightly flattened laterally, and a thin and round caudal peduncle. The head is conical with a prominent snout. The mouth is inferior, horseshoe-shaped, and the lower jaw has no sharp cuticle. The lips are well developed, with wrinkles on the surface of the lower lip. The left and right lower lip leaves are connected to each other in the front, and the unconnected parts are rolled inward. There is no middle leaf, and the posterior lip groove is continuous. There is a pair of short, thick whiskers at the corners of the mouth, which are slightly longer than the eye diameter and end at about the bottom of the posterior edge of the eyeball. There are two rows of pharyngeal teeth, which are thin and round, with pointed tips and slightly curved, and the chewing surface is concave and spoon-shaped. The body surface is brown and scaleless, with only 2-4 rows of irregular round scales on the shoulder straps. The lateral line is straight. The dorsal fin has 2 unbranched rays and 8-9 branched rays. The last unbranched ray is a soft spine without serrations. There are 1, 9-10 pelvic fins, with the base generally opposite to the seventh dorsal fin ray. Anal fins 2, 5. Pectoral fins 1, 17-19, caudal fin forked. The back of the body and the top of the head are yellowish brown or grayish brown, with black spots evenly distributed, and there are also a few spots below the lateral line. The abdomen is grayish white or yellowish white. The dorsal fin is light gray and the caudal fin is light red with small red spots.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: 1. It inhabits the plateau wide valley rivers of various water systems in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and is more common in the backwaters of river bends. It feeds on aquatic animals such as caddisfly larvae, amphipods, stonefly larvae, and also eats a small amount of plant debris. The reproductive period is approximately from April to May.
