[Original form] Large-leaved Camellia catechu is a vine-like shrub, up to 10m tall. Branchlets smooth, hairless, green-brown. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 1.4-2.5cm long; leaves are papery or thinly papery, ovate or ovate-oblong, 6-12cm long and 3-6cm wide, upper leaves are smaller, with rounded or slightly obtuse apex, rounded or nearly cordate base, green above, glabrous, yellow-green below, densely covered with yellow short soft hairs, chestnut after drying, 5-7 pairs of lateral veins, flowers are bisexual, thyrses are terminal or axillary, inflorescence axis is up to 20cm long, branches can be up to 8cm long, covered with short soft hairs, pedicels are short, 1-2mm long, glabrous; flower buds are ovoid, with the apex sharply contracted into a short tip; petals 5; stamens 5; ovary 2-chambered, half hidden in the receptacle. The drupe is cylindrical-oval, 7-9mm long, purple-red or purple-black when ripe, with a persistent disc-shaped disk at the base; the fruit pedicel is 2mm long. The flowering period is from July to September, and the fruiting period is from May to June of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on hillsides, bushes and forests below 1000m above sea level.

【Functions and indications】 Expel wind and dampness; promote blood circulation and relieve pain; detoxify. Mainly used for rheumatic joint pain, stomachache, dysmenorrhea, infantile malnutrition, traumatic injury, multiple furunculosis

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 10-30g; or soak in wine.
