[Source] Medicinal material source: branches and leaves of the small-flowered pole-shaped pole plant of the Tiliaceae family.

[Original form] Small-flowered pole, shrub, 1-3m high. Branchlets densely covered with short brown and stellate hairs. Leaves are alternate; petiole 4-8mm long, densely covered with light brown short soft hairs; leaf blade broadly ovate, 3-11cm long, 2-6cm wide, obtuse at apex, truncated or nearly rounded at base, sparsely covered with short hairs and stellate hairs on the upper side, densely covered with yellow-brown soft hairs on the lower side, with irregular serrations or slightly 3 shallow cracks on the margin. Cymes, opposite to leaves; peduncle and pedicel densely covered with light brown, short hairs and stellate hairs; flowers light yellow, about 1 cm in diameter; sepals lanceolate, stellate pubescent beneath; petals with rounded scale-like glands at base, gland margins covered with long soft hairs; style 2-chambered, dorsifixed; ovary 2-chambered, densely covered with long soft hairs, style slender; stigma split irregularly. The nucleus is nearly spherical, 2-4 groups, orange-yellow or black-red when mature, shiny, 2-cleft, each with 2 small nuclei. The flowering period is June-July, and the fruiting period is August-September.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet; bitter; warm

【Functions and indications】 Strengthens the spleen and replenishes Qi; dispels wind and dampness. It is used to treat infantile malnutrition, abdominal distension, rectal prolapse, metrorrhagia, leucorrhea, and rheumatic pain.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral administration; decocted in water, 9-15g; or soaked in wine.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat weak spleen and poor appetite: Wawa Quan, Tiger Ginger, Curcuma, and Shouxinggan. Decoction in water. (Sichuan Chinese Materia Medica) ② Treat chest distension and fullness: 1 liang 5 qian of branches and leaves of the Rhizoma Australis. Take with simmered water. (Guizhou Herbal Medicine) ③Treat rheumatism: 10 liang each of pine bark branches and pine leaves. Take with simmered water. (Guizhou Herbal Medicine) ④For the treatment of infantile malnutrition and women’s metrorrhagia: 3 to 5 qian of branches and leaves of shoulder pole, 5 to 6 qian each of roots of crane’s head, sieboldii, and sorghum.
