Flowers are unisexual and monoecious; panicle inflorescence with green-white flowers; male inflorescences are born in the lower leaf axils, without peduncles; female inflorescences are born in the upper leaf axils, 7-16 cm long with the stalks; male flowers have 4-5 perianths, which are completely divided, with the same number of stamens, opposite to the perianth; female flowers have flat, winged short stalks, perianth is 4-lobed, the lateral 2 lobes become larger after flowering, oblong or obliquely obovate, with a blunt head, 1 pistil, and a slender, curved stigma. Achenes are flat, obliquely ovate to broadly ovate, about 2.5 mm long. Flowering period is August. Fruiting period is October.

[Habitat distribution] Grown in shady and moist forests. Distributed in provinces in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
